A Look At Our Readers’ Favorite Elementary Schools

In last week’s Best of BubbleLife survey, we asked our readers to vote for the best elementary school in their hometown. Answers piled in all week until we received more than 6,000 responses.

Dallas is full of incredible elementary schools, and we wanted to showcase some of our readers' top picks.

Bolin Elementary School in Allen

Named after longtime Allen residents Luther and Anne Mae Bolin, this school is located on Bolin’s former farmland. The school’s mission is to honor Mr. Bolin by fostering leadership development in its students. Bolin believes that “a complete education includes engaging academic work, instilling positive character traits and developing responsible citizens.”

Donald Elementary School in Flower Mound

Donald Elementary believes a successful school career begins in elementary school. According to its core beliefs, “Every student is uniquely capable and deserves to be challenged each day.” Donald offers digital learning environments to engage young learners. One of the school’s goals is to, “design an accountability system that transcends state/national mandates and reflects local values and expectations.”

Moss Haven Elementary School in Lake Highlands

A part of Richardson ISD, Moss Haven Elementary (MHE) strives to, “develop lifelong, independent, successful learners by meeting individual needs in a positive learning environment.” Students are held to a standard of showing good manners and following instructions with thought and care. MHE encourages parent involvement through their “Parents with Heart” program, designed to allow parents to support their children and the campus.

Lakehill Prepatory School in Lakewood

This school describes itself as “an academic community dedicated to the whole student.” According to its academic overview, “From kindergarten through high school, every Lakehill student is encouraged to strive, challenged to succeed, and inspired to excel.” Lakehill’s elementary school classes are based on child-centered curriculum that gear students for success. Here, students are encouraged to get involved in the community to develop a life-long passion for serving others.

McKinney Christian Academy in McKinney (Top Choice)

Founded in 1992, McKinney Christian Academy (MCA) "exists to honor Jesus Christ by teaching students to live biblically through education of mind, body and spirit." McKinney Christian Academy has won McKinney Courier Gazette's Best Private School Reader's Choice Award for the past seven years. MCA has a staff that "exhibit godly influence, professionalism, teaching expertise and the ability to communicate effectively with students and parents."

Imagine International Academy of North Texas in McKinney (2nd place by 12 votes)

Imagine International Academy of North Texas, a public charter school, opened in fall of 2012. Named an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in early 2014, the Academy serves K-10 and will add a grade until reaching K-12. The IB program offers an exceptional college-preparatory education, stressing inquiry-based learning, collaboration, global perspective and leadership. Also, students improve their scientific, technological, engineering and mathematical literacy by working with teachers and their peers.

Robert S. Hyer Elementary in the Park Cities

A part of Highland Park ISD, this elementary school was named after educational leader Dr. Robert Stewart Hyer, “the man who made Southern Methodist University a reality.” In 2001, former Commissioner of Education Jim Nelson recognized Hyer Elementary for being one of eight schools in the state to receive an “exemplary” rating for nine consecutive years. Principal Jeremy Gilbert released a statement saying, “It is my hope that each child that walks through our doors has the opportunity to reach his or her full potential in a positive, nurturing and engaging learning environment.”

Hedgcoxe Elementary in Plano

Hedgcoxe’s motto is, “Take care of yourself. Take care of each other.” According to Principal Kristi Graham, “The students, parents and staff truly feel a positive connection that creates an atmosphere of enthusiasm in our building.“ The campus was built in 1990, costing nearly $8 million. Some of the Hedgcoxe programs have included Chez Snoopy, a French restaurant run by third graders, and a Night of Giving.

Walnut Grove Elementary in Southlake

Walnut Grove is one of the 11 schools in the Carroll ISD district. The school strives to provide “an educational environment in which students are challenged, excellence is expected and differences are valued.” One of Walnut Grove’s programs, Carroll Academy Reading Enhancement (C.A.R.E.), offers consistent support for the development of reading, writing and oral language skills.
