Musical Tribute for 9/11-FREE

Join the Allen Community Band in a Musical Tribute honoring the 25th anniversary of the 9-11 attack on our nation. This free concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 11, at the Allen Public Library, 300 N. Allen Dr. A combination of patriotic selections and pieces written specifically for the September 11 remembrance will be presented.  VFW 2195 will present the colors, and First Responders will be attending.

Most notable selections to be included are:

Beautiful, flowing lines underscore trumpet soloist Kevin Purcell in a special version of TAPS arranged by band member Derek Molacek that will open the program.  The Star-Spangled Banner is the official Department of Defense version used by all military bands and other performing ensembles.

Composed as a tribute to victims of September 11th:

A Hymn for the Lost and the Living by Eric Ewazen is a beautiful, highly expressive work for wind ensembles. It opens with a moving trumpet solo and builds into a profound, grieving memorial. Stephanie Waterman is the trumpet soloist.

9-11: Voices Echo is a two-movement piece written right after the tragedy. The first movement ("Attack") is aggressive and asymmetrical, with overlaying voices echoing the chaos. The second movement ("Aftermath") offers a somber, reflective
space.

Carmen Dragon’s highly emotional arrangement of America the Beautiful is one of the most dramatic settings of this patriotic standard ever written.  Opening with the full ensemble followed by an extended section featuring the woodwinds, the brass and percussion are added to build to a very exciting and dynamic ending.
